All SnedekerDesignz Templates are Temporarily Down...

By JesusFreak on Dec 14, 2011

Happy December to everyone,
This is JesusFreak here bringing you some news about all SnedekerDesignz templates hosted on Tem+. Some of you have brought it to our attention that these templates are all missing images. We apologize for the inconvenience this may have caused some of you. We have contacted @CraigS of SnedekerDesignz.com and he is now aware of the issue and we here at Tem+ are working together with him to get this solved as soon as possible so we may better serve our users.

As you may have inferred from the title, all SnedekerDesignz templates have been temporarily removed and will be back up as soon as the missing image errors are resolved. Once again we apologize for this inconvenience and we are working hard to fix this issue. If you have any questions for concerns feel free to leave a comment on this post.

Your friend and developer @Tem+,

Simplus Registration Open!

By Adam on Oct 20, 2011

Those who can't wait to claim their site on Simplus can now claim their name before we launch.

Things to note:
  • Names like "Simplus" or "Support" (or other things we may need to use) can be reclaimed by us or deleted, so try to be original.
  • You can't use your site yet, we still have to write those tools, you are merely claiming the name
  • The current registration script won't tell you if the domain you want is taken yet, so be sure to be original.

Create a Name Tag Vector Grapic

By AlterPoser on Oct 12, 2011

Developing your website is not all about coding, there's a little bit of design skills that should be there too. So here's a start. Someone asked me how I made my name tag graphic so here's a little tut. I use Inkscape. Click the image to watch the video.

Simplus -> How to write your app.

By Adam on Sep 03, 2011

We now have the framework ready for you to work on your first app!

You may download a hello world app here. (Right click -> Save As).

File layout:
  • appname/
    • app.php (This is what simplus looks at first when trying to use your app. You can use this file to run the rest of yours.)
    • That's it, unless you need more files for your app, but you know what to do with those.

Things to note:
  • Your app will only be loaded for the content area for the time until sidebars have full integration, sorry.
  • Your app will be approved by hand after we look through your code to ensure it won't run slow.
  • We will create a database for you upon approval if needed. Remote databases will not be allowed (Unless you have a truly valid reason).
  • You are a whole lot likely to be approved faster (if at all) if you use http://framework.zend.com/manual/en/coding-standard.coding-style.html as a standard for coding your app. Being able to read the code makes it more maintainable and make more logical sense.

If you need help, we do have an IRC server. server: simpl.us channel: #simplus

Templus Security Hole

By Adam on Aug 28, 2011

There was a hole that was exploited last week that made some databases available to those who knew how to exploit the hole.

The vulnerability has been patched and your personal info is safe.

Passwords were released on accident, but they were a hash (meaning there is no way to decrypt or recreate it)

Simplus Update

By Adam on Aug 05, 2011

Developing Simplus was overly optimistic for me. Simply put, I tried to go after something too big, so I am deciding to not make the site; who wants to buy the domain?

Just kidding! In all seriousness though, I will have to initially make some cuts to make it launch-able any time soon. When Simplus launches, it will be forum-only due to the extreme complexity that is introduced by having a completely generated site.

What does this mean to you?
  • When you design templates, try to keep in mind that it will be used initially for forums (Templus style)
  • You will be able to use simplus months sooner than I planned!

Calling 1 beta tester.

By Adam on Jun 04, 2011

I am working on a new site (as you most likely already know). If you want early access, you must fit the following criteria:
  • Live your life online & be willing to check the project frequently
  • Have OCD; we need good quality control
  • Be active in the Templus community (We want a good well rounded person)
Other things that help:
  • Coding knowledge - ability to describe what needs fixed, occasionally send some code to fix.

Also, I have posted some HTML here, if you can create an amazing stylesheet for it, you are awesome (I can't say much more than that, but it will be publicly available soon.)

Trust me, you want to be one of the first members.

End Transmission.

New Feature - Reply Button

By JesusFreak on Jun 03, 2011

Hello to our wonderful community,
This is JesusFreak here and I just wanted to let you know of a new enhancement I rolled out this morning. As I have been monitoring comments I have seen some users who get confused on how to reply to a user. Let's make a little example here.

Say John Doe posts a comment on Bob Doe's profile. Now Bob goes to his profile to see this comment. So out of habit, Bob sees the comment box on his profile and begins typing his reply; however, he doesn't realize he is posting a comment on his own profile. As you can see a problem arises. Bob now posts to his own profile and John never gets the reply.

This is where the new feature fits in. If you visit your profiles you will now see a reply button next to each comment. All you have to do is simply click that link and it will take you to the profile of the user who posted the comment. Then you can type your comment. We hope this new feature helps crack down on any confusion! More enhancements and features are on the way so be on the lookout!

Fixed ... for real?

By Adam on May 26, 2011

Well, it seems an update of mine to update the update that updated the update got rolled back. I can now hopefully say that the registration bug is most likely fixed! (Hopefully).
Jokes aside, it should work.

Also, I will be posting topics every week now with prompts that are all about web design and how you should make a site look.

Welcome new members! [Registration is fixed]

By Adam on May 21, 2011

It seems that when the login script was updated to allow you to sign in with either your username or password (Yes, you can really do that, try typing your username into the email field), something got changed in registration where your username was validated against a code that checks to see if the username looks like an email and returned a false positive for the way many usernames were formatted.

It is now fixed, so welcome new members!

Moving into the summer.

By Adam on May 14, 2011

Alright guys, I don't post on the blog too often, so you can already imply that this will be important.

I will be very bust this summer and won't be able to tend to every need of Templus

Because of that fact, we will have to make some changes beforehand to keep the site in tip-top shape.
  • JesusFreak has already been designated as what is basically my right-hand man and I have been giving him more control of the site to him over time as he is a great member of our sites.
  • The forums have been less than organized over the past month and it NEEDS to change. If offtopic posts get too frequent, I will be forced to filter them out of the sidebar and other important parts of the site, which is no fun. If you must make an announcement about your site, please keep it to a minimum or keep it on your site's blog.
  • I personally will be moving onto bigger and better things, and I'll keep you posted on this blog as to when we hit major milestones in the path towards my next big website. Most likely, you will know a good chunk of info by late June; it will be worth the wait, I swear.
  • One more update is coming to Templus that will restructure our homepage, and you should see it in the next week (one I iron out the last bug).

There is tons of stuff to discuss, but the end of the school year is still not here, so i must get back to work!

Delay Apologies

By JesusFreak on May 13, 2011

Hello Templus community,
This is JesusFreak and I wanted to send an apology out to our dear users. The Templus team has been dealing with some problems we have noticed as well as improving the way this site is run. As a result, templates have not been reviewed in weeks. As the lead template reviewer I try my best to satisfy our fantastic users. Unfortunately I have let you down. Please except my sincere apologies. We are doing our best to get everything squared away and we will be looking at those templates in no time.

Again, thank you for your wonderful contributions to the community!

How To Ensure Your Template is Approved!

By JesusFreak on Apr 04, 2011

Templus receives many template submissions every week. However, many of these templates are denied because they do not fit our guidelines. As the person in charge of the template reviewing process I spent some time last year typing up a very extensive list of guidelines that need to be followed in order to have your template approved. I spend lots of time on each template making sure it fits these guidelines before I approve/deny them. Below I have provided some tips to ensure your template is approved the first time.

Many Templates Are Revoked

Since the launch of Templus we have had 199 template submissions. However, only 92 of these submissions have been approved. That is about 46% of the templates submitted. This is a pretty scary number. When I go through the queue each week it can be depressing to see so many templates that just seem to be a joke. So be sure to follow the guidelines so we can boost up this number.

Submission Guidelines

As stated earlier, I spent some time developing guidelines for authors that want to submit their templates. To view the guidelines please go here.

Additional Comments

In addition to all of the guidelines stated in the link given above, I want to emphasize the topic of people submitting template from our template generator. The template generator allows you to develop a general layout and color scheme for your template. However, you must do some more work to make it unique to your site only. As a result, we get many submissions that are from the generator but are not unique. I have denied approximately 80% of all templates created by the generator because they all look the same except for their colors. However, there are a few good ones out there that customized their generated template greatly and made it unique. Please keep this in mind when submitting templates from the template generator.

Thank you very much for reading this and God Bless!

April Fools!

By TemplusBot on Apr 02, 2011

Yesterday was interesting, here is a summary:

  • The entire page had a random opacity set to it (The snow effect)
  • We added a link to GeoCities in the navbar to parody almost every site in the ninetites
  • One in every 10 pageloads by webkit users (Chrome, Safari) were upside down
  • Comic Sans everywhere
  • Added a text shadow to everything to improve blurring
  • A random heading blinked in webkit (h1,h2,h3,etc)
  • In the beginning half of the day, the snow would progress from barely noticeable to 50% invisible over 100 seconds
  • Every page, no matter how small, was set to have scrollbars thanks to a width of 100.1%
  • The meanest: I added some code that would crash IE6 and possibly 7, which is why some antivirus software suites may have flagged the site, but it was all in good fun and put you at not disposition where you were really vulnerable to viruses.
  • Random images were turned upside down in webkit
  • On 1 in 10 pageloads, you would get an autoplaying video of Rebecca Black's "Friday"

This was actually quite funny, by the middle of the day, people were in an uproar so I had to tame the code a bit so the site isn't completely unusable, but it only lasted a day and your favorite webs template site is indeed back to normal. Now pay no attention to who wrote this and everything will be just fine >:D

New Templates!

By Buddyweb on Mar 25, 2011

Webs.com have added 3 new websites, to spice up your site! Darkroom, Luminous, and Strong.  Each template comes with several color choices for a total of 17 new designs. Awesome!

This template is so cool! Navigation bars on the top are so becoming popular now days (Facebook, Bebo, MySpace, Twitter) almost every site has one. The background is also so awesome, with the bright contrast of all those colors, bright vibrant colors! Talking of colors, the template provides an awesome contrast of colors through out the hole site, including the content areas. Over all a pretty awesome template for me!

This is also a quite popular template also and very similar to one of their previous new released templates, the Planet Eath template, but it has a simpler header but still, a large header image! A slick top navigation bar and a superior wide content area, great for websites that have a lot of information ot display!

A slick and modern template, the perfect styled template for any business. This template comes with a large header area and a great cool content area! Defonately an awesome template for many website subjects.

Happy Spring Break!

By AdamMiner on Mar 13, 2011

Now that we are a couple of days into spring break around here, we have some huge news to break (but not today); here is what you may have already noticed...

  • The entire site should be snappier, I finally got around to doing some much-needed work on the DB where I finally got some new indexes defined and resorted some of the rows in the database so our database engine can find the proper entries much quicker.
  • New buttons all around! Buttons on the site look much nicer, don't they?
  • Say "Hi" to Frank (Buddyweb), our newest moderator!

Have a safe and fun spring break, and be sure to check back on Wednesday, we won't disappoint :)

March blog series: Promote your site: Relationships

By RyanAlan on Mar 08, 2011

Relationships are key to growing your site. You may have one of the best sites in the world, but it won't matter if nobody comes by to see it.

Having Friends Helps.

Friends and moderators are great for your site, not only will they help out with everyday tasks (Like JesusFreakn for example, who has been holding down the template queue for the past few months). One other advantage is that moderators on your site typically are your biggest advocates and are willing to send a few of their friend to your site as well.

Never forget ad exchanges
When you initially create your site, you need to get your name out. One of the best ways of promoting is to promote yourself on other similar sites.

While I'm here, I just wanted to say Hi! You will all see me some more over the next weeks during this series of posts!

Webs Releases New Templates!

By JesusFreak on Feb 19, 2011

On February 16th, 2011, Webs.com announced 6 new templates to further expand their wonderful template gallery. Some users have been wishing for this for years! Now your wish has come true. Some users are very satisfied with these new templates, while others think there should be more in specific categories. Another plus is that each template has a variation of different color schemes, which adds up to a total of 20

Template: "Camera"

Camera "Camera" is a premium template that is a perfect choice for those in the photography industry. It has a great simplistic feel to it yet it is so unique. The nav bar on this template is outstanding and really brings life to your site. I did find some errors however. They aren't major but they are still errors. On a drop down the width is not set to auto. This causes overflow. Hopefully this will be fixed soon though. Overall, "Camera" is a great theme for those with a site focused on photography. However, even if your site isn't focuses on photos you can just change the camera icon and make it unique! Just head over to the advanced tab and customize the CSS.

Template: "Serene"

Serene Template"Serene" is a free template that is very simple yet very elegant. This template comes in two color schemes: A Blue and a Pink. They both are terrific and perfect for any kind of site. The best part about the simplicity of this template pack is that it is easily customizable. I really didn't find any errors in this template. Overall, it is perfect for that site that needs a simple touch and best of all it is FREE!

Template: "Dramatic"

Dramatic Template To begin, the dramatic" template pack ROCKS! This pack comes with five different color schemes, all which are great. You have the option to chose between each color scheme and all are perfectly elegant. This template pack is a premium template so you must have some type of premium package. It is worth it though.I didn't find any problems with this template and I just fell in love with it right when I saw it. I hope you love it too!

Template: "Paper"

Paper Template"Paper" is a premium template pack that is great for nearly any site. It takes great use of shadows and other eye enhancing techniques. it has something about it that makes you wonder. This template pack has four different color schemes which basically changes the nav bar items color and the link colors. I am sure it changes other simple things as well. Overall, I found nothing negative about this template. Please remember you will need a premium account to use this template pack.

Template: "Planet Earth"

Planet Earth Template This template pack is a free template pack that I personally though was going to be premium. However, I am really happy it is free because it can be beneficial to many users. As shown in the preview to the left it has great aesthetics. This template pack comes with four different color schemes which offers great customizing ability. One of my favorite elements of this template was the title font. I fell in love with it immediately. I found no problems with this template pack and I think it is great for anyone.

Template: "Wood Planks"

Wood Planks Template"Wood Planks" is a premium template pack that uses the wood planks texture as its main design focus. It comes in three different color schemes. My personal favorite was the green one. I also love the use of transparency in this template. I couldn't find any downfalls in this template. The only negative would be that only premium accounts can use it. Besides that, it is a great template for any site!

Conclusion

This is it for my reviews on each new template. I hope you were able to gain some insightful information. Let us know any of your feedback below in the comments. We would love to hear what you think about these templates. I wish you a great day and God Bless!

We're back in business!

By JesusFreak on Feb 03, 2011

As you may have noticed, there has been a slight delay in templates being reviewed. We apologize for this inconvenience and we hope you can forgive us! We hope to make it up to you by some future releases we have been working on (which explains the delay in the reviewing process). However, we have gotten back into the hang of things and we are currently caught up on all the templates. Please check your profile for a comment letting you know if your template(s) were approved or denied. Thank you very much for your understanding and thank you for using Templus!
